Giussano's name has ridden through eight centuries: tradition ties it to Alberto da Giussano, the legendary commander of the Lombard League whom popular memory placed at the head of the battle of Legnano — and whom nineteenth-century iconography carved sword in hand. History or myth, the Brianza town carries the echo with pride.
Daily reality is that of furniture-and-design Brianza, of which Giussano is one of the historic centres: workshops, showrooms and a craftsmanship that furnishes half the world. A city since 1987, it remains a fine observation post on Lombard industriousness.

Giussano celebrates Our Lady of the Rosary, patron of the town, every first Sunday of October; her statue stands atop a column in Piazza Roma. Each hamlet, however, has its own distinct patron: Robbiano celebrates Saints Quiricus and Julietta, Birone Saint Stephen, Paina-Brugazzo Saint Margaret.
