Feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot
📅 Every year, on 17 January
On 17 January Colli Verdi celebrates its patron Saint Anthony the Abbot; the municipal territory preserves the Castello di Torre degli Alberi and the Castello di Verde.
Colli Verdi is not the name of a village: it is the description of a landscape. The municipality was created on 1 January 2019 by the merger of Canevino, Ruino and Valverde, three councils of the Oltrepò Pavese, and not one of the three passed its name on to the new one. The town hall too sits elsewhere: the seat is at Pometo, which was never a municipality, having been the chief village of Ruino. It is a scattered municipality in the full sense, with no centre to give it a name, and the coat of arms arrived only in 2021, two years after the merger.
What there is, instead, are the hills and what was built on them: the castle of Torre degli Alberi, the castle of Verde with its park, the sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montelungo. The municipality belongs to the Borghi autentici d'Italia, which is a small irony for a place that has three villages and chose to be named after none of them. Whoever climbs up here finds the houses scattered along the ridges, as the custom is in these parts, and the old names that people go on using.
