Volpara

Province: Pavia · Region: Lombardy · Population: 133 · Postal code: 27047

Around the year one thousand Volpara belonged to the count of Piacenza, who passed it to his son-in-law, the count of Pombia; but in 1014 the emperor Henry II took it away from him, because he had sided with Arduin of Ivrea in his rebellion. A village confiscated for a wrong political choice. It reappears in 1250 in the list of lands under Pavia, then enters the fief of Montecalvo Versiggia and stays there until 1797, passing from the Beccaria to the Paolazzi and finally to the Belcredi.

Its coat of arms is brand new: granted at the end of 2024, it was presented to the inhabitants on the seventeenth of July 2025. There are two things on it, and neither is an ornament. A bunch of grapes, for the Moscato that has always been made here; and a fox, which is a document: the place was once called Prato di Volpe, the fox's meadow, after the foxes that lived in its woods. The village sits high in the hills, in the valley of the Versa stream.
