Golferenzo appears in 1164 among the lands the emperor Frederick Barbarossa placed under Pavia: a sign that at the time it must have had a castle and a jurisdiction of its own. It then followed the fortunes of Montecalvo Versiggia, of the Beccaria and the Dal Pozzo, until in 1690 it was sold to the Belcredi; and on that occasion the hamlet of Pizzofreddo, which belonged to Golferenzo, went off with Soriasco to the Gambarana and never came back. The municipal coat of arms is still that of the Belcredi, who were marquesses of Golferenzo.
The fief was abolished in 1797, but not the land: almost until the end of the Second World War most of the municipal territory remained the Belcredi's, worked by sharecroppers; and the castle belonged to the Varesi family for three generations, until the nineteen nineties. The old centre takes a few minutes to walk round: there is the lords' palace, there are the old prisons, there is the church of San Nicola. All around are vineyards: pinot noir, pinot gris and moscato are made here.
