Montesegale

Province: Pavia · Region: Lombardy · Population: 307 · Postal code: 27052

For centuries Montesegale had two masters at once: the investiture of the Gambarana was granted by Pavia and by the bishop of Tortona, who kept the higher lordship over everything even after Frederick II, in 1219, had subjected the village to the Pavians. The Gambarana stayed on, with brief interruptions, until the end of feudalism in 1797.

In 1743, by the Treaty of Worms, the village passed to the Kingdom of Sardinia and to the province of Bobbio; then it was French, then it belonged to Voghera, and only from 1859 has it belonged to Pavia. Today it has registered four products of its own: the pansegale, the trêsa, the mundiöla — a salume made from the neck muscles of the pig — and the salàam da cöta.
