Feast of Saint Sebastian
📅 Every year, on 20 January
On 20 January Marzio, a small municipality of 303 inhabitants, celebrates its patron Saint Sebastian, to whom the town's church is dedicated.
The village lies between the Valganna and the Valceresio, and right through it ran the Frontiera Nord, the defensive system Italy built towards Switzerland and which everyone calls the Cadorna Line, though that is not its proper name. A good deal of those works can still be visited here.
The town hall of Marzio is the highest in the province of Varese: it stands at seven hundred and twenty-eight metres. Until 2018 the coat of arms carried a seated squirrel, in gold, with its forepaws held to its mouth as if eating; then the comune changed its heraldry. In 1809 the village had been annexed to Brusimpiano, and it had fewer than two hundred inhabitants then.
