The patron saints of Saronno are Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated on 29 June. The collegiate church, or duomo of Saronno, located in Piazza Libertà, was built in 1783 to replace the pre-existing church of Santa Maria, demolished at the time: since that year it has held a crucifix carried in procession every year for the feast of the Trasporto. Its bell tower, 43 metres tall, holds a set of eight bells in falling B-flat, and is attached to Saronno's largest church.
Among the town's other places of worship, the sanctuary of the Beata Vergine dei Miracoli stands out for its notable artistic interest: on 10 March 1505 the sanctuary's deputies commissioned the great architect Giovanni Antonio Amadeo to design its lantern tower, while the bell tower, built between 1511 and 1516 by Paolo della Porta da Osteno, reaches a height of 47 metres. Inside the sanctuary one can admire a fresco cycle by Gaudenzio Ferrari, as well as paintings by Bernardino Luini, who worked there over two separate periods, in 1525 and 1531, from the apse to the choir screen.
