Saint Victor, patron of Ceriano Laghetto
📅 Every year, on the last Sunday of August
Ceriano Laghetto celebrates Saint Victor on the last Sunday of August, in the church dedicated to him.
Until 1864 the comune was called simply Ceriano; a royal decree added the name of the small lake, which lies on private ground and cannot be visited. The same water returns in the coat of arms, azure, a stag standing on the shore amid grassy country planted with four poplars. The hamlets are Dal Pozzo and San Damiano, the latter now absorbed into the built-up area; part of the woodland belongs to the Parco delle Groane, and little of this otherwise crowded corner of Brianza is built on.
The earliest written trace of the place is a chapel under the pieve of Seveso, recorded in the late thirteenth century in Goffredo da Bussero's Liber notitiae sanctorum Mediolani. For half a century Ceriano ran its neighbours too: in 1869 the suppressed comuni of Solaro and Cogliate were joined to it and became separate again only in 1919, an earlier union of the same kind having lapsed decades before. The parish church of San Vittore was designed by the engineer Luigi Silva.
