Saints Quiricus and Julietta, patrons of the land of the Groane Park
📅 Every year, on 16 June
Solaro celebrates Saints Quiricus and Julietta on 16 June.
Solaro lost its town hall twice and twice took it back. A decree of 1809 abolished the comune and attached it to Ceriano; the Austrians of Lombardy-Venetia soon restored its independence, but in 1869 the Kingdom of Italy revived the old provisions and the village became part of Ceriano Laghetto again. The push to separate did not fade, and in 1919 a new decree re-established the comune for good.
The arms are cut by a diagonal and say two different things. On one side a golden sun on blue refers to the name, once Solarium, the blue recalling the village's old Guelph allegiance; on the other a silver roundel on red comes from the arms of the Carcassola, the Milanese family that held the fief of Seveso, Solaro included, until 1538. The town hall occupies a nineteenth-century villa built for Marie Leopoldine von Khevenhüller-Metsch, widow of the marquis Febo D'Adda.
