The patron saint of Grottammare is Saint Paternianus, probably the first bishop of Fano, venerated as patron saint also in Fano and Cervia; his religious feast is celebrated on 10 July.
On the Tuesday after Easter, in the waters in front of the church dedicated to him, the fishing-boat palio is held in honour of the patron saint of sailors. In years when 1 July falls on a Sunday, the Sacra Giubilare is also held, a religious solemnity and historical re-enactment instituted at the will of Pope Alexander III, returning by sea from Ancona after concluding the peace. The town also holds the church of Santa Maria dei Monti and the Porta Marina.
