Feast of Saint Vitus
📅 Every year, on 15 June
On 15 June Monte Vidon Corrado, a municipality of 777 inhabitants in the province of Fermo, celebrates its patron Saint Vitus.
Osvaldo Licini was born here in 1894, one of the great European painters of the twentieth century. He studied in Bologna and Florence, came into his own in Paris, where he met the abstract painters, and in 1926 came back to the village with his Swedish wife, Nanny Hellström. The family house, an eighteenth-century manor, became what he himself called in a letter his laboratory of experimental art: in the cellar he prepared his colours and held his political meetings, and that cellar is now an exhibition room. Licini was also mayor of Monte Vidon Corrado, from 1946 to 1956, and here he died in 1958.
The name of the village comes from a man: Corrado, son of Fallerone, lord of Falerone. His brother was called Guidone, and the two gave their names to two castles of the Fermo country which have become two neighbouring municipalities, Monte Vidon Corrado and Monte Vidon Combatte. The trade of these hills is something else again: here straw, rush and wood shaving are worked, and out of them come bags and hats.
