Feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian
📅 Every year, on 26 September
On 26 September Lunano celebrates Saints Cosmas and Damian; the village is also known for its Chestnut Festival, which reached its 53rd edition in 2025.
In 1213 Saint Francis passed through here, and the story goes that he gave a blind boy his sight back by washing his eyes with water from a well: the well is still there, in the courtyard of the convent of Monte Illuminato, above the village. In the church hangs a Saint Francis in adoration attributed to Carlo Maratta.
The castle belonged to the Ubaldini, then to the Brancaleone, lords of the Massa Trabaria, whom cardinal Albornoz drove out in 1358 and Boniface IX put back in 1392; in 1424 the Montefeltro arrived. In the square a plaque recalls Garibaldi passing through, and the chestnut festival, in October, reached its fifty-third edition in 2025.
