Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
📅 Every year, on 29 June
On 29 June Frontino, a municipality of 313 inhabitants in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, celebrates its patrons Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
From the cellars of Palazzo Malatesta an underground passage runs out beyond the walls, and once it reached as far as the mill: that way the castle had its flour and its bread brought in without ever showing itself. Defended like this, and by a captain named Vandini, in 1522 these walls held off the siege of the Florentines commanded by Giovanni delle Bande Nere.
Just outside the village, in the convent of Montefiorentino, is the chapel that Count Carlo Oliva had built in memory of his parents: the altarpiece, of 1489, is by Giovanni Santi, the father of Raphael, and the count had himself portrayed kneeling among the saints. In the village, on the other hand, the monumental fountain is not dedicated to a prince: it is dedicated to a primary school teacher.
