Feast of Saint Blaise
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February Piandimeleto celebrates its patron Saint Blaise, to whom the town's church is dedicated; in July the Palio dei conti Oliva takes place.
Piandimeleto belongs to the Montefeltro, and part of its territory is detached: the hamlet of Pirlo lies on its own between Lunano, Sassocorvaro and Urbino. The village was held by the Oliva counts, of Germanic origin, who in the fifteenth century rebuilt the fortress, crowned it with merlons and enriched its rooms; when the house died out in the next century it all passed to the Church.
The municipal archive was destroyed during the French occupation at the end of the eighteenth century, and what survives, twenty-nine manuscript registers, came back inside a private bequest: that of Ugo Ubaldi, grand master of the Alto Tevere lodge, who in 1956 left the town his papers, his books and his house to hold the library. The first, public and lending, dated from 1869.
