At the sources of the Trigno there was an Italic temple of the third century BC, perhaps to Hercules. In the Middle Ages somebody used its foundations and walls to put up a little church, and the apse can still be made out: they call it Sant'Angelo Indiano, and so the district is called to this day.

Then there is the story of the statue of the Madonna, which kept going back to the hill where she had appeared until it vanished altogether: it turned up at Minervino Murge, in Puglia. The shepherds had probably taken it with the flocks, since from here, at 1,200 metres, they went down to winter on the Tavoliere. The village, 728 residents, sits tight inside its walls, with the castle and San Nicola at the top.
