Alluvioni Piovera is a young comune: it came into being on the first of January 2018, when Alluvioni Cambiò and Piovera merged. Before that the two villages asked their residents what they thought, and the referendum of 29 October 2017 came out in favour. The coat of arms does the same thing, putting together the signs of the two former comuni. On the ground the two settlements stay separate.
At Piovera stands the castle held by the Visconti in the fourteenth century and later by the Balbi, a family of the Genoese Republic. Some rooms are still painted in mourning for Napoleon's death; from the nineteen-sixties Count Niccolò Calvi di Bergolo opened them to visitors.
