Pasturana

Province: Alessandria · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,256 · Postal code: 15060

Pasturana sits on the last hilly spurs of the Ligurian Apennines, and carries two dialect names: Pastiràuna in Piedmontese, Pastorànn-a in Ligurian. From 969 it belonged to the monastery of San Salvatore in Pavia, a distant landlord; much later it became a fief of the Spinola.

Palazzo Spinola stands above the houses, on a terrace held by a long slanting wall of brick and river stone. The pink front is long and low, with green shutters; on the main floor three windows sit inside arches of pale plaster, and below them a statue fills the niche above the door. A stone balustrade runs along its edge.
