The church of San Sebastiano is a Catholic place of worship in Cuneo, in the diocese of Cuneo-Fossano. Since 2012 it has been part of the San Sebastiano Diocesan Museum.
What to see
Throughout the fourteenth century the city of Cuneo had no churches dedicated to Saint Sebastian. A small church dedicated to him arose on the initiative of the comune in 1431, on the old road of Borgo: it was circular in form and had many windows, so that the faithful could attend mass even in time of epidemic without being in an enclosed place.
Inside can be admired works by the seventeenth-century painter Giovanni Antonio Molineri, of Savigliano. Behind the high altar is the altarpiece with the Crucified Christ with Saints Sebastian and Rocco and two flagellants at prayer, of 1626-27, which is the ancona of the choir; in the pendentives of the dome are painted the Evangelists, of 1628-29, of whom only John and Matthew are autograph, while the others are retouched.
