The patron saint of Dronero is Our Lady of Ripoli, celebrated on the second Sunday of September. The patron's name preserves the memory of one of the town's oldest roots: there is no precise date for its founding, but Dronero's origin is traced back to the year 1150, when the inhabitants of the two original villages of Ripoli and Surzana, the latter located in the area of today's hamlet of San Ponzio in the municipality of Roccabruna, withdrew, to protect themselves from constant raids and plundering, onto a triangle of land between the Maira torrent and the Rigamberto stream, today's Roccabruna stream, encircling the new settlement with tall walls, still partly visible today.
The town also preserves the church of Santi Andrea e Ponzio, the chapel of Santa Brigida and the sanctuary of the Madonna di Foglienzane, as well as the famous Ponte del Diavolo over the Maira.
