Feast of Saint Andrew
📅 Every year, on 30 November
On 30 November Monesiglio celebrates its patron Saint Andrew; the town also preserves the Santuario di Santa Maria dell'Acqua Dolce.
The name has no settled explanation. Some trace it to a Mons occelli, the hill of the eyelet, a lookout over the Bormida; another reading points to a Monexilium, and so to monastic affairs, the exile of a few on a nearby height. Before the Romans this was Statielli Ligurian ground.
On the left bank of the river, among the trees, stands the pieve of Santa Maria dell'Acqua Dolce, known here as the Madonna di San Biagio: Ottonian diplomas name it plebs de Langa. Romanesque, it ends in three apses under small blind arches; in the middle one restoration brought back a Christ Pantocrator among the symbols of the four evangelists.
