The patron saints of Venaus are Saint Blaise, celebrated on 3 February, and Saint Agatha, on 5 February; one of the town's most deeply felt traditions is the Danza degli Spadonari (sword dance), a folk dance performed at the feast and repeated the following Sunday, with four spadonari and the priore.
The alpine village lies on the so-called «Strada Reale» or Via Francigena of Mont Cenis, the main route up to the Mont Cenis pass and hence to France before the carriage road was built in 1806; in August the patronal feast of the hamlet of Bar Cenisio repeats the sword dance.
