Casale Corte Cerro

Province: Verbano-Cusio-Ossola · Region: Piedmont · Population: 3,476 · Postal code: 28881

The name is threefold because the place really was. The corte of Cerro, held by the counts of Crusinallo, came with feudalism, and the town grew until, in 1310, the ghibellines attacked it, burned it and destroyed it: the counts were guelphs and allies of Novara. Those who survived fled to the mountain casali, and the rest of the name comes from there.

Even in the first half of the nineteenth century the geographical dictionary of Goffredo Casalis still kept two entities apart, the borgo of Casale and Cerro di Ossola. Until 1913 the comune also took in Gravellona Toce, which then set up on its own.
