Nonio, Gnugn to Lombard speakers, looks down on Lake Orta from its western shore, houses clinging to the slope with woodland behind. There are serpentine quarries in the municipal territory, and the parish church is dedicated to Saint Blaise the martyr.
Lower down, towards the water, lies the hamlet of Brolo: at the end of a meadow, among trees, stands the oratory of the Virgin of the Seven Sorrows, a compact block with a hipped roof of stone slabs, a bell gable on the ridge with the bell in view, and a cobbled path reaching the door between a dry-stone wall and a wooden fence.
