The village sits at the foot of Monte Mazzone, in a shallow dip low in the valley of the Qualba stream; in Piedmontese and in Lombard the name sounds the same, Césara. Lake Orta is right behind, yet nothing of it shows from the centre: Monte Camosino, 641 metres, stands in front and covers it entirely.
Above the houses, on a terrace held by a stone wall, stands the parish church of San Clemente. Its bell tower is bare stone, with a sharp spire and two clock faces on different sides; an arcaded portico on columns runs along the front, looking out over the grassy slope.
