Premosello-Chiovenda

Province: Verbano-Cusio-Ossola · Region: Piedmont · Population: 2,034 · Postal code: 28803

The village was simply Premosello. In 1959 the name was changed to Premosello-Chiovenda in honour of Giuseppe Chiovenda, the jurist born here: a commune that added a citizen's surname to its own.

Part of its territory lies inside the Val Grande national park. On 29 August 1944 a reprisal by Nazi-Fascist troops against the partisans cost five people their lives. In the hamlet of Cuzzago the church of San Martino keeps statues by Giovanni Angelo Del Maino, and at Colloro stands the sixteenth-century oratory of San Gottardo.
