Formigliana

Province: Vercelli · Region: Piedmont · Population: 550 · Postal code: 13030

The name of Formigliana appears in a document of 882 by which the emperor Charles the Fat gave it, with other lands, to the Church of Vercelli; Otto III confirmed the grant twice, around the year one thousand. From 1170 the village was a fief of the Avogadro, with Collobiano, and the town arms recall it: the gold and red bars are that family's blazon.

Of the castle a long block remains along the road, the plaster fallen away in patches, the brick showing through. At the centre opens a portal of brick and stone with a broken pediment; the windows keep wooden shutters, and the yard is cobbled.
