Siamanna

Province: Oristano · Region: Sardinia · Population: 824 · Postal code: 09080

The name means «the big road»: sa bia manna. The village grew along the Roman road that ran from Fordongianus to Usellus, and later along one of the main roads of the giudicato of Arborea. The arms put three things together: a gold S, the village's initial, seven ears of wheat, and the bell tower of Santa Lucia, the chief church, which is of the eighteenth century on a sixteenth-century plan.

Its administrative history is a coming and going. In 1928 the fascist government absorbed it into Villaurbana together with Siapiccia; in 1947 Siamanna and Siapiccia were put together into a single comune called Siamanna-Siapiccia; and in 1975 the inhabitants, by referendum, decided to go back to being simply Siamanna.
