Feast of Saint Andrew
📅 Every year, on 30 November
On 30 November Villanova Truschedu celebrates its patron Saint Andrew; the municipal territory preserves nuragic remains, including the Nuraghe Nuragheddu.
Villanova Truschedu lies in the Barigadu, and its finest peculiarity cannot be seen: it is heard. The variety of Sardinian spoken here belongs to the limba de mesania, the language of the middle, that belt of speech lying between the Logudorese of the north and the Campidanese of the south, taking a little from each. In the territory at least seven nuraghi are counted, among them Santa Barbara, of the type called a tancato, with its courtyard enclosed between the towers.
The village's feudal history is short and curious. In 1829, well into the Savoyard period, Villanova was given in fief to the Manca Ledà family, who joined it to Fordongianus to form the county of San Placido; ten years later, in 1839, the abolition of the feudal system redeemed the village from the last count, don Giacomo Manca Ledà, and Villanova became a comune with a mayor and a council. That county had lasted little more than a decade. The village of today can also be read about in a novel, Sardinia Blues by Flavio Soriga, partly set here.
