Putifigari

Province: Sassari · Region: Sardinia · Population: 757 · Postal code: 07040

In 1364 Peter IV of Aragon gave Putifigari in fief to Pietrino Boyl and made him its baron. The fief then passed to the Sussarello of Sassari, who sold it to archbishop Antonio Canopolo; and the archbishop, in 1610, gave it back to them. In the eighteenth century it became a marquisate and the Boyl, who had got it back, marquesses: the village bought itself free from the last of them in 1839.

Long before, in the Neolithic, they were cutting domus de janas here: the necropolis of Monte Siseri is all carved out of the rock. In the middle ages the district belonged to the giudicato of Torres, in the curatoria of Florinas, and when the giudicato fell, in 1259, it went to the Doria of Genoa. In the village they speak northern Logudorese.
