Armungia

Province: South Sardinia · Region: Sardinia · Population: 489 · Postal code: 09040

At Armungia the nuraghe does not stand outside the village: it stands in the main square, next to the museum. It is a single tower, truncated cone in shape, built with schist stones that grow smaller as they go up, closed at the top by a false dome; for the archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu it belongs to the middle Bronze Age. Around it they have built a museum system that holds together the nuraghe, the Sa Domu de is Ainas ethnographic museum, the blacksmith's workshop and a house.

That house is where, on 4 December 1890, Emilio Lussu was born, an officer in the trenches, an anti-fascist and the founder of the Sardinian Action Party. The rest of the story is that of the Gerrei villages: the giudicato of Cagliari, then the Pisans when the giudicato fell in 1258, then the Aragonese from 1324, then the county of Villasalto and the marquisate of Villaclara, with feudal lords following one another until 1839, when the end of the feudal system gave the village back a mayor and a council.
