The patron saint of Iglesias is Saint Clare, celebrated on 11 August.
A few days later, on 15 August, the town celebrates the Festa di Sancta Maria di Mezo di Gosto (Our Lady of Mid-August), a religious procession with shoulder-borne votive structures called «candelieri», in honour of the Assumed Virgin: the event is comparable, in Sardinia, to those held in Sassari, with the Faradda di li candareri, in Nulvi and in Ploaghe. Also particularly striking are the Holy Week rites organised by the ancient Archconfraternity of the Virgin of Mercy of the Holy Mount, including the «mysteries» procession with seven figures recalling the Passion of Christ.
