Serri

Province: South Sardinia · Region: Sardinia · Population: 676 · Postal code: 09063

On the plateau above the village stands the nuragic sanctuary of Santa Vittoria, in use from the Neolithic down to the Byzantines. Below, in the valley, the Romans put Biora, a fort on the military road from Olbia to Cagliari: the soldier-colonists called Martenses were stationed there, and it served to keep off the Gallilenses who came down from the Gerrei.

That frontier is the same one the Tavola di Esterzili, cut in bronze, records as a lawsuit between the Patulcenses Campani and the Gallilenses. In our own time Serri has changed province on paper before doing so in fact: a law of 2001 sent it to the Medio Campidano, one of 2003 moved it to Cagliari instead.
