In the 10th century, a settlement known as Vicum Agrillae took root on this Sicilian ridge, eventually adopting the name Forza d'Agrò during the 14th century. Situated in the Metropolitan City of Messina at 420 metres above sea level, this hilltop village currently counts 878 residents.

Positioned on the lower peak of a mountain, the town looks up toward the ruins of a Norman castle perched on the higher summit. Recognized among the official most beautiful villages in Italy, it forms an integral part of the Agrò Valley region.
