Feast of Saint Theodore
📅 Every year, on 9 November
On 9 November Gallodoro celebrates its patron Saint Theodore; the municipal territory includes Monte Pietrabianca, on the Ionian side of the Peloritani mountains.
The name comes from the Vallis Aurea, the golden valley the Romans named so either for its richness or for the gold said to lie there. The town grew around the little church of San Teodoro, and it spreads over the slope like the cavea of a theatre, the houses packed one against another.
In 1634 the territory was detached from Taormina and bought by Francesca Porzio, who became its marchioness. Then, in the nineteenth century, the seaside hamlet — Letojanni — grew larger than the hill town, and in 1880 it carried off the town hall: the comune was called Letojanni-Gallodoro. Gallodoro became a comune of its own again only in 1952. There are 381 residents.
