The name is an orchard: Militello comes from meleto, a field of apple trees, and Rosmarino is the valley that runs beside it. In Norman documents it appears as Miletum, always next to San Marco: it was the king's land, not a baron's.
A fief it became under the Aragonese: in 1371 the land and castle went to Vinciguerra d'Aragona, one of the most prominent lords of Sicily in his time. Then, through the fifteenth century, came the Rosso, and under Enrico Rosso the town filled with building sites and works of art. From the nineteenth century, though, people began moving down to Sant'Agata, and never stopped. There are 1,334 residents.

Militello Rosmarino celebrates Saint Blaise on 3 February, in the cathedral originally dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra; the barony passed in 1573 to the Gallego family, descendants of an Aragonese knight and an Aztec princess, later princes of Militello.
