Known locally in Sicilian as Roccaciurita, Roccafiorita holds a distinct double record: it is the least populated municipality in Sicily, home to 228 residents, and covers the smallest land area of any island town in Italy. Nationwide, it ranks fifth among the country's smallest municipalities by surface area.
Situated in the Metropolitan City of Messina, the settlement lies 35 kilometres southwest of Messina and approximately 170 kilometres east of Palermo.
