In the village there is an octagonal eighteenth-century belvedere, eight columns and a decorated roof, where the local landowners used to meet and talk. The American soldiers, during the war, called it the café house: ever since, garbled, everyone calls it the cafiausu.
The town's name is Viridariolus, little garden: there were citrus, wild olives and fruit trees here, and the arms indeed carry a cornucopia with grapes, wheat and lemons. On 10 December 1893, in the days of the Sicilian fasci, a demonstration against food taxes ended in blood: eleven dead. Below the village stands the nineteenth-century washhouse, twenty basins fed by the Scorsone spring. There are 2,258 residents.
