Torretta

Province: Palermo · Region: Sicily · Population: 4,141 · Postal code: 90040

High in the mountains overlooking Palermo, Torretta is home to 4,141 residents. Baron Arrigo Traina established the first settled center here in 1599, though the town likely draws its name from a late 17th-century tower. Control later passed to Giulio Tommaso Caro, Prince of the Pelagie Islands, and to the DiBenedetto family, active in the 1860 Italian unification uprisings.

Olive farming drives the local agricultural sector alongside marble and aluminum industries. Landmark buildings include the 17th-century Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, the Church of the Sacramento, and the Convent of the Collegio di Maria.
