Roccamena celebrates Saint Joseph on 19 March with the traditional «Altars», banquets offered to the poor in thanks for a grace received, and again in the second week of August with the «Funzioni», a sacred play drawn from the apocryphal gospels.

The patron saint of Roccamena is Saint Joseph, celebrated on 19 March with a memorial mass, parades by the local music band and above all with the preparation of the «Altari di San Giuseppe»: lavish banquets set up by the faithful in thanks for a grace received, once intended for the poor, featuring pasta with sardines, cannoli, cassateddi and «cucciddati», a special bread that is blessed and distributed. The patron is celebrated a second time in the second week of August, with the «Funzioni», a sacred play drawn from the apocryphal gospels that recalls the return of the Holy Family from Egypt.

The town, founded in the mid-19th century by Prince Giuseppe Beccadelli of Camporeale, owes its name, according to tradition, to an exclamation by its founder, «Che rocca amena» (what a pleasant crag), struck by the beauty of the landscape. Within the municipal territory lies the archaeological site of Monte Maranfusa, with the remains of the Calatrasi castle, once a fief of the Norman Malcovenant family and described by the Arab geographer al-Idrisi as a «striking castle, a primitive and reliable stronghold»; a little further downstream stands the picturesque Calatrasi bridge, known as the «Devil's Bridge», dating from the second half of the 12th century.
