Situated 674 meters above sea level and 25 kilometers from Palermo, Santa Cristina Gela sits near the lake of Piana degli Albanesi. With a population of 925, it is the newest and smallest Arbëresh settlement in Sicily, established at the end of the 17th century by settlers from neighboring Hora.
Along with Contessa Entellina and Piana degli Albanesi, the village preserves its Arbëreshë heritage and language, which appears on official bilingual street signs. Ecclesiastically linked to the Eparchy of Piana degli Albanesi, it serves as the seat of the "Besa" Union of Albanian Municipalities of Sicily.
