Avio passed to Venice by will. In 1411 Azzone Francesco Castelbarco left the Republic the vicariates of Avio, Ala and Brentonico: the Venetians gained a base from which to push north, and the inhabitants a wide autonomy. This was the experience of the four vicariates, which weighed for a long time in the administrative history of the Vallagarina and is remembered here as a golden age. Venice had to withdraw in 1509, after the defeat at Agnadello, and Avio ended up with the Habsburgs.

The village is the southernmost of the Trentino, and that put it on history's road much later too: at the end of October 1918 the Austro-Hungarian armistice commission, led by general Viktor Weber von Webenau, was received at Avio in Villa Pellegrini-Malfatti, seat of the twenty-sixth Italian division; the armistice was signed a few days later at Villa Giusti, near Padua. In 2022, on the other hand, a late Bronze Age sword came out of this ground, of copper and tin alloy, broken where the hilt was fixed: probably not damage but a rite, because valuable objects were deliberately broken to be offered.
