Bocenago

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 407 · Postal code: 38080

Bocenago lies in the Val Rendena, on the left bank of the Sarca, a little below Pinzolo. In 1928 it was abolished together with Caderzone and attached to the comune of Strembo; all three became autonomous again in 1947. It is a village of a few hundred people, and the surnames that recur are always the same ten: Alberti, Boroni, Riccadonna, Franzelli, Ferrazza, Fostini, Botteri, Cavoli, Bonafini and Maffei.

In the old church of Santa Margherita there are works by the painter Valentino Pupin. The village lives on tourism, summer and winter, and has two events of its own: in mid-August the pageant Com'eravamo, which rebuilds the Bocenago of the past and draws people from all over the valley, and a nine-hole golf course that is not all here, because it stretches as far as Caderzone — the very village with which Bocenago had once been merged.
