Cinte Tesino

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 372 · Postal code: 38050

The dialect calls it in four different ways, Sinte, Zinte, Thinte, Finte, and the village stands on a secluded plateau, easy to defend and rich in woods and water: which is why it is thought to have been inhabited since before the Romans. In imperial times, on the line of the via Claudia Augusta Altinate, it was perhaps a vicus. Then the Tesino remained tied for centuries to Feltre, and after the year one thousand the universitas hominum appear here, communities that gave themselves written rules for the use of everyone's woods and pastures.

The village lived on those woods, and its coat of arms, adopted in 1984, says so: a green fir rooted on a hill, on a red field, and nothing else. Its status as a comune, on the other hand, it lost twice. Between 1810 and 1818 it was a hamlet of Castello Tesino; from 1928 to 1947 a hamlet of Pieve Tesino. Twenty-seven years in all spent being part of somebody else.
