Civezzano

Civezzano was a Lombard and then a Frankish centre of some weight, and it appears for the first time in 845. In 1885, in the place called Foss, the proof came out of the ground: the tomb of a Lombard prince, rich in grave goods, which has been reconstructed and is displayed at the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck. Other Lombard finds came from Castel Telvana. Much later, from 1817 to 1923, the village was the seat of the imperial and royal district court, with its functions of first instance and the keeping of the land register.

The coat of arms, adopted in 1985, has three columns, and they count: the old community was divided into three colmelli, Civezzano, Torchio and Barbaniga, each made up of two or more villages. Another name records a trade: the locality of Slacche, documented in 1321 as Slache, comes from the Middle High German slac, smelting slag, and says that metal was worked here. Above the village stands monte Calisio, the Argentario, with its medieval silver mines, still partly open to visitors, and an ecomuseum that tells their story.
