Pergine Valsugana celebrates the Nativity of the Virgin Mary on 8 September, in the church dedicated to her.
The castle has stood on its hill since before the year 1000 — the town's name appears in a document of 845 — and it was fought over: the Tyroleans laid siege, and the peace of 9 October 1356 brought the whole upper Valsugana under Tyrol. In German Pergine was called Persen, in Mòcheno Persn.
At the edge of the Pudro marsh, in 1948, a sword of the tenth century BC came to light, with a finely worked cup pommel; peat was cut from that same bog until 1989. The town, 20,446 residents, sits at the mouth of the Fersina valley, with Lake Caldonazzo to the south and the Panarotta above.
