Pellizzano

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 811 · Postal code: 38020

In 1929 Pellizzano was made the seat of a municipality that included Ossana as well; after the war Ossana took back its autonomy, and in 2019, when the proposal to join up came round again, the two villages voted no. The name appears for the first time in 1211, in a deed naming one Bertoldo «de Plezano».

Of the group of villages of that time one, Darbi, is gone: a landslide is said to have carried it away. The quarrels between the herdsmen and farmers of Pellizzano and Termenago were settled in the square in front of the church of Santa Maria, which keeps frescoes by the Baschenis. In the village people speak with a Lombard lilt that the hamlets just above do not have; and there are two ski-jumping hills.
