Ossana

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 844 · Postal code: 38026

The place appears as Volsana in 1174, in a document of the counts of Appiano in favour of the collegiate church of San Michele all'Adige. Above the village stands the castle of San Michele, recorded from 1191: episcopal officials held it, then the counts of Tyrol, then the Federici of the Val Camonica; between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries part of the property belonged to Bertha von Suttner, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905.

On 22 December 1956 a scheduled DC-3 flew into the Cima Giner, in the Val Perse: all twenty-one people aboard died, seventeen passengers and four crew, three days before Christmas. In 2016 the village built a nativity scene in their memory. At Cusiano the frescoes of the Baschenis, from the late fifteenth century, remain.
