Samone

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 544 · Postal code: 38059

Samone lies at the foot of Monte Cima, and since 2016 it has had a single boundary: the one with Castel Ivano, the municipality born from the merger of all its neighbours. So the village finds itself an enclave, an island of a few hundred people entirely enclosed within another municipality. It has two churches, the parish church of San Giuseppe and that of San Donato.

In the eighteen hundreds people came to Samone from the north, and a small Protestant community grew out of it: something rare in the Trentino of that time. Around the feast of the Assumption in August the village fills up for the Ferragosto Samonato, and in the middle of the festival they run the luciolada, a night-time race with no finishing order.
