Soraga di Fassa

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 736 · Postal code: 38030

Whoever came up the Avisio valley paid here: Soraga was the first village of the Fassa community, and the customs house, the Ciasa de le Onge, still bears on its wall the bishop's arms carved in sandstone, with the date 1521. Along the stream that crosses the village stands a boundary stone of 1551: it marked the border between the principality of Bressanone and that of Trento.

The comune is in two separate pieces: one on the valley floor, the other some twenty kilometres away, up at Fuchiade, on the San Pellegrino pass; Moena lies in between. Until 2017 the village was called simply Soraga: the «di Fassa» was added to make it recognisable to tourists. Here the language of the house is Ladin.
