Feast of San Bartolomeo and Sant'Andrea
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August Torcegno, a municipality of 697 inhabitants in the province of Trento, celebrates its patrons San Bartolomeo and Sant'Andrea.
The name is said to come from Torzòn, which in Celtic meant heather: the woods around here are full of it. Another explanation gives «tower on the Ceggio», the stream that runs beside the village, and indeed on the coat of arms there is a tower next to water. In German, when it was used, it was Türtchein.
The village stands on a broad terrace among the chestnut trees, between Monte Ziolina and Monte Collo. In the fourteenth century this part of the Valsugana belonged to the lords of Telve-Castellalto, who also held Telve and Roncegno. The little valleys above the village, Suerta, Musiera, Cavè, Porchera, are full of paths and of farmsteads put back in order. The parish church of Saints Bartholomew and Andrew is of the fourteenth century.
